Restoring History

The Murphy House

The Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel project was announced in March 2018, but few details were revealed at the time. Now in 2022 the project is picking up speed and some very exciting details are being reveled.
The renovation of the Water Works & Sanitary Board building and the Murphy House at 108 Coosa Street in Montgomery, Alabama to an Autograph Hotel by Marriott, is a highly anticipated project. The project consists of three separate buildings connected by party walls and bridges. Two of the existing buildings are 4-story masonry clad wood-framed structures, while the third is a Neo-classical 2-story historic home. A rooftop will be added to the 4-story brick structures. Guestrooms will be provided on levels 1-5 with balcony suites located on the roof. Hotel amenities to be added include a full-service restaurant, rooftop bar, Starbucks café, a 1,000 sq ft fitness room, and meeting rooms.
Guests will dine and sip drinks while overlooking downtown Montgomery from a new, window-lined level on top of a riverfront warehouse, according to plans on file with the city.
It’s all part of a multi-million dollar, five-star boutique hotel that’s being built in and around the 1851 Murphy House at 22 Bibb St.
The most dramatic change is a rooftop addition to the Murphy House’s neighboring warehouse building. It will add a fifth floor, set back from the current roofline, to house nine upper-floor guest rooms, a bar, a restaurant and courtyards. Bar guests will be able to look down into an atrium extending from two ground-level storefronts through the existing roof.
This beautiful old and new part of history is plan to open this Fall 2022.
