When given the opportunity, Ascent Hospitality encourages hotels within their portfolio to give back to the communities in which they work and serve. SpringHill Suites Birmingham Downtown UAB Director of Sales, Pamela Plyler, became aware of an opportunity to support families needing hotel rooms in emergency situations and she knew immediately it was a perfect partnership.
In July 2015, Plyler discovered the Ronald McDonald House could not support the demand of families requiring accommodations. This prompted Plyler to contact the Social Services Department of the Children’s of Alabama Hospital and see if she could create a partnership to help the families in need. “In desperate situations families with very ill children need a place to rest while caring for their children, she said. Once we made the decision to help the hospital and these families it didn’t take long to get the process going. Each request is taken very seriously and families go through a qualification process for the accommodations. Once approved, the families are notified and it overwhelming to see how appreciative they are to have a comfortable place to rest after spending long hours at the hospital.” The partnership between SpringHill Suites Birmingham Downtown UAB and Children’s of Alabama also includes the University of Birmingham Pediatrics Department.
On March 27, 2017, Children’s of Alabama Hospital hosted the Eleanor L. Barnes Social Worker Conference which served to honor Ms. Barnes for her many years of service in social work as well as mark her retirement. It was also at this conference that Ms. Plyler accepted on behalf of the hotel, the 2017 Award of Recognition for the SpringHill Suites Birmingham Downtown UAB in support of Children’s of Alabama families by Children’s of Alabama Department of Social Services. This is an annual award recognizing one company each year. Ascent Hospitality is proud to have SpringHill Suites Birmingham Downtown UAB and Pamela Plyler recognized for extraordinary community service. Congratulations on receiving this outstanding award.
