2017 is already bringing great things to Ascent Hospitality! As part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection brand hotels, The Empire Hotel is scheduled to open early 2017 in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Empire Hotel brings a different persona to Ascent’s profile, one of culture and Southern Hospitality. But before we transformed it into what our guests will see this year, the historic significance alone carries an enormous weight, literally.

The Empire Building, what will now be The Empire Hotel, was once part of a four-building site dubbed the “Heaviest Corner on Earth”. It consisted of the four tallest buildings in the South in the early 1900’s. The Empire Building has been a melting pot of professions and interests, ranging from banks to an authentic-best Italian food you’ve ever tasted restaurant. What was originally housed as a Bank Saloon, soon became a bigger entity known as City National Bank. Although the City Bank did not assume all of the building, it was its main attraction. City National Bank was founded in 1965 and was the main attraction of the Empire Building. In 1982,  City National Bank merged with Colonial Bank and remained until it’s closing in 2009.

Although the Empire building has been a historic and symbolic entity of the south, plans to expand into the world of hospitality, make it equally as impressive. The concept of the new Empire Hotel keeps its historic flare, while also creating a new modern identity, that will become the new staple of Birmingham.

Excitement is buzzing around the roof top bar that will be added to the Empire Hotel, which includes breathtaking views from the 16-story building. Although attached to the Empire Hotel, the rooftop bar will have its own identity and style, serving as a restaurant and common place for business professionals and entertainment.
